“It is important to work with care providers’ knowledge and perceptions about research on pregnant women to enable patients to make informed choices
Research on therapeutic measures and interventions is sparse in pregnant women, which risks hindering important medical advances for this group. Ethical concerns about imposing uncertain risk on the fetus have led to the exclusion of pregnant women in many trials.
Pregnant women are considered an especially vulnerable population.”
